Wolseley retires (1917)

Extract from Kent Messenger of 25th August 1917

General Sir George B. Wolseley, [?]G.C.B.,K.C.[?], of Thatched Cottage, Wateringbury, has retired from the position of Colonel of the York and Lancaster Regiment, to make room for General Sir H. C. O. Plumer. He thus terminates a membership in that corps ex­tending over 59 years. Sir George is a younger brother of the famous Field Marshall Viscount Wolseley, and is now in his 79th year. His service began with the Indian Mutiny. After that campaign he obtained a captaincy in the North Staffordshire Regiment. His other campaigns were Afghanistan, Egypt and Burmah.
