THE SCHOOLS.—As shown in the March Magazine the total amount required to balance expenditure up to December 31st ult. was £258 9s. 1d., and towards that sum donations or promises amounting to £243 19s. had been received at the moment of going to press, leaving a deficit of £14 10s. 1d. Subsequently one guinea was received from Mr. W. Pye English and one guinea from Mr. Owen English, and the donation list was still on its way round the parish when Lord Falmouth kindly sent a cheque for £18. This leaves a balance in hand of £5 11s. 11d., and the list is therefore closed. During the last two years considerable improvements have been carried out in the buildings of the girls' and infants' departments and the playground has been enlarged, and it is confidently hoped that the schools as a whole will serve the purposes of the parish without further work on a large scale for many years. The accommodation is sufficient, but without any large margin, for the children of the parish. Under the circumstances the Committee of'Management have decided to exercise their right of strictly limiting the admission of children from neighbouring parishes, for fear of running the average attendance up to too high a figure: it would be unreasonable that we should run any risk of being called upon bv the education authority to enlarge our schools for the benefit of children of other parishes which have schools of their own.

The parish is to be congratulated upon the work that has been accomplished, and the Vicar, who undertook the responsibility of raising the necessary funds for last year's alterations, takes this opportunity of thanking subscribers for their willing support. He would also wish to thank those other parishioners who were ready to give their support had it been necessary to call upon them. With regard to the future, the committee having come to the conclusion that they could no longer expect to have the office of correspondent filled gratuitously, considering the large increase of work it involves compared with that under the old regime, they have attached an annual stipend of £10 to the office; and it is likely that a small—a very small—sum will have to be raised annually by subscription to meet this extra obligation in addition to current expenses of repairs, cleaning, &c. Hitherto these expenses have been met by the rent of the Master's house received from the K.E.C. It is estimated that this annual subscription will have to be started next year.

The following lists of School Prizes were crowded out of the February and March numbers of the Magazine:-
