Farming Union (1877)

Extract from Kent Times - Saturday 02 June 1877

WATERINGBURY.

A KIND ACT.—Mr. King, the secretary of this Branch of the Union, writes the the largest farmer in this parish kindly paid his men their wages for the day upon which they came to the Union demonstration at Maidstone. This is a step in the right direction, and we should like to see other employers follow the example, instead of (as instances are known to us) discharging labourers for joining in upon so praiseworthy an occasion.
