World War 1 sailors

Wateringbury has had a close association with the Royal Navy until quite recently: William Latter served at Trafalgar as a boy; Matthias Lucas organised the sea fencibles; arranged Nelson's funeral and was on the committee which had Nelson's column erected; as recently as the second half of the 20th century there were two admirals living in the village.

Deaths in WWI included Alfred Gunner, Arthur Hodge, George Hearn, and Thomas Bowles but many more served and a selection of short bios is attached.
