Extract from Maidstone Telegraph of 6th March 1869 reporting on Petty Sessions at Malling

DEFAULTING RATEPAYERS AT WATERINGBURY.

Messrs. J. B. and G. H. Beadle, wheelwrights, Wateringbury, were summoned by the overseers of the same place, charged with neglecting to pay poor rates amounting to £5 8s. Defendants did not appear, and the service of the summons was proved by Sergeant Bates. Jeremiah Harris, assistant overseer, said he had demanded the rates, which were due in September and January. The overseer also applied for the money a fortnight ago. The two rates previous were recovered by means of a summons. The Bench ordered warrant of distress to be issued.
