Lord North dies in Wateringbury (1860)

Extract from Morning Post, Wednesday 1st February 1860:

Death of Lord North. — We regret to announce that Lord North, eldest son of the Earl of Guilford, died suddenly at the residence of his mother-in-law, Lady Grey de Ruthyn, at Wateringbury, on Saturday last. Lord North was only 30 years of age, and has left three clifidren, the eldest a boy, now heir-apparent to the earldom of Guilford. His lordship was in his usual health until a few hours previous to his death, and on Thursday was shooting on the lands of his brother-in-law, Mr. Lancaster Lucas. Mr. Gould, of Wateringbury, was in immediate attendance; and eventually Dr. Woodfall, of Maidstone, was summoned, but without avail The information of his lordship's death was received with deep emotion on Saturday by the Earl of Guilford, his father, who is 88 years of age.

SUDDEN DEATH OF LORD NORTH.-Early on Saturday morning last Lord North died suddenly at the residence of his mother-in-law, Lady Grey de Ruthyn, at Wateringbury. His lordship had been out shooting on Thursday, with Major Cook, at Roydon Hall, when, the day being very wet, he caught a severe cold. He was attended on Friday by Mr. Gould, surgeon, but no serious apprehensions were entertained until late in the evening, when alarming symptoms exhibited themselves, and at about ten o'clock Dr. Woodfall, of Maidstone, was sent for. His lordship, however, rapidly grew worse, and died at about one o'clock. The deceased lord was the son of the Rev. Francis North, sixth Earl of Guildford, who is now in his 88th year; his mother being Harriet, daughter of the late Lieut.-General Sir Henry Warde, G.C.B. He was born on. the 7th of August, 1820, and married, 17th of October, 1850, Charlotte Maria, third daughter of the Hon. and Rev. William Eden (formerly rector of Bishopsbourne, near Canterbury), and the Dowager Baroness Grey de Ruthyn. He leaves issue three sons, the eldest, the Hon. Dudley Francis, having been born on the 14th of July, 1851. He will be buried at Walderslade, near Dover, where his father now resides.
