Extract from Parish magazine of February 1887:

Penny Dinners.—Early in the month a few of our kind friends started a plan for giving a Hot dinner at 1d. to the Children attending our National Schools, many of whom flock to the large kitchen (kindly lent by Mr. Augustus Leney), where the Dinners are distributed, and seem to enjoy themselves very much. We have reason to know that many of the poorer children have their pennies or tickets given them, so that these dinners are a pleasure to all and a real help to many. Ten Dinners have already been given with an average attendance of 78 per diem. A list of Subscribers will appear in our next number.
