Extract from Maidstone Telegraph of 8 February 1868 about the Malling Petty sessions.

William Brown is listed as living in Wateringbury Place at the time of the 1861 census along with his wife, 8 children and multiple servants. William participated on the management committee of the Wateringbury National schools, sometimes alongside Samuel Lancaster Lucas, and he was presumably a tenant of Samuel Lancaster Lucas at Wateringbury Place.

Susanna Smith, 42, housekeeper to William Brown, Esq., Wateringbury-place, was charged with stealing several articles linen and other property, to the amount of £2, the property of her master. She was committed for trial at the adjourned quarter sessions
