Hopping Dinner (1857)

WATERINGBURY—The annual hop dinner was held at the King's Head, Wateringbury, on Wednesday, the 12th inst., when an excellent dinner was provided by the worthy host, Mr. E. Luther, to which between 30 and 40 of the members sat down, under the presidency of their new chairman (Charles Leney, Esq.) The average betting was about £130,000, and the afternoon and evening were spent to the apparent gratification of all present.
