Boxley Parish magazines are held in Kent archives as P40/28/9/1. The June 1920 magazine includes the following in the vicar's letter:

Vicar’s letter: The hipped roof nathex w. of the tower, which is regarded as a shelter for pilgrims travelling along the old road and by some called a Galilee porch, has been beautifully restored by a member of the Whatman family to whom the porch belongs. The work has been carried out by Mr. James Wood, of Boughton Montchelsea, and executed entirely by one of his workmen, Mr. Froude. The work will be a lasting memorial that there still exists a workman who does good work for its own sake. I congratulate Mr. Froude, and we are fortunate in obtaining his services. Canon Livett, Vicar of Wateringbury, -perhaps the greatest living expert on Norman Architecture- came over and we were able to profit by his valuable advice.”
