The following Note appears in the Wateringbury Parish magazine of September 1896:

The School Treat held at Wateringbury Place on the 14th was a complete success. With a kind hostess and a charming place this was anticipated, but on the morning of the day the rain threatened to spoil it all. The weather cleared up, however, and the afternoon was bright and warm. Mr. Harold Davies had worked indefatiguably in preparation for the races, which produced a good deal of fun. Mrs.Davies had provided numerous prizes for the successful runners ; and gave each child refreshments on the terrace before they went away. These children had previously had a substantial tea in the coach house. One little fellow managed to fall into the lake, but watchful Miss Evans quickly pulled him out, and soon had him arrayed in dry clothes : he seemed to enjoy the incident and appeared none the worse for his ducking. Three cheers for Mrs. Davies closed the entertainment. Colonel Davies was unfortunately detained in town, it being the last day of the session.
