Parish council meeting at Church rooms on Wednesday January 17th 1917 at 7.45 p.m. Present: Messrs. Blest, Cheeseman, Sharpe and Smith. Clerk reported that repairs to roof of Lock Up were receiving attention and Mr. Sharpe reported that roof and wall badly in need of repair. Deficit reported on allotment accounts for year to March 31st 1916 and agreed that council should advance up to 50 s. for lime. Chairman reported receipt of a letter from Secretary of County War Agricultural Committee outlining a scheme by Board of Agriculture for distribution of seed potatoes to allotment holders and small cultivators. Decided to get and distribute asap order forms despite uncertain cost; applicants to pay deposit of 5s. per cwt.

Parish Council Meeting at Church rooms on Monday Feb 12th at 7.30 p.m. Present: Messrs. Blest, Cheeseman, English, Tapply, Smith. Mr English reported that allotment ground needed a good dressing of lime. Decided to order up to 3 tons of ground lime from The British Portland Cement Manufacturers Ltd at Halling at 26/6 per ton at works, Railway carriage extra at 2/9 per ton, and to leave question of cartage from station to Clerk and Mr. English to make best arrangements. Clerk reported orders for 25 cwt. of seed potatoes had been sent in. Mr. English thought there were several people in village who would like an allotment; report at next meeting.

Parish Council Meeting at Church rooms on Thursday March 29th at 8 p.m. Present: Messrs. Blest, Cheeseman, English, Tapply, Baker. Mr. English reported that 50 cwts. of lime had been obtained, 2 cwts. for each 10 rod plot with 2 bags over. Mr. English had done necessary cartage from station. Mr. English also reported that by the kindness of Mrs Flint and Mr. Brocklebank all applications for allotments had been supplied with their requirements. 2 spare bags given to Mr. Cheeseman. Various accounts totalling £17 2s. 9d. agreed for payment. Clerk reported receipt of 9 cwts of Arran Chief Seed Potatoes at 16s. per cwt. Clerk instructed to obtain designs and prices of hand Bier for funeral.

Annual Meeting held at Church Rooms on April 11th at 7.45 p.m. Present: Messrs. Blest, Cheeseman, Tapply, Baker, Sharpe, Smith. Appointment of Messrs. Amos Baker and William Bennett as Overseers and Richard French as assistant. The clerk having applied for an increase in salary matter left over to next meeting. Balance at bank £44.3.2. Matter of funeral bier again discussed “it was decided that owing to the heavy cost owing to the war advance in prices not to take any further steps at present.

Parish Council Meeting at Church rooms on Tuesday June 26th 1917 at 7.45 p.m. Present: Messrs. Blest, Cheeseman, Sharpe, English, Tapply, Baker, Smith and Canon Livett. Agreed that a war bonus of £10 be granted to Mr. Richard French, assistant overseer, to be paid £5 on September 30th and £5 March 31st 1918. Chairman read “a letter received from Malling RDC stating that Local Government Board wished a scheme to be prepared for the erection of Working Class Dwellings immediately after the war. After discussion it was agreed that more cottages chiefly for Agricultural Workers would be needed in the Parish. The matter was then left over for a Parish Meeting to be held later”. Clerk reported he had received the required 25 cwts. of Government Seed Potatoes from the War Agricultural Committee at Maidstone. Total cost was £17 12s. 0d. which paid to County Treasurer, but no additional charge for delivery from Maidstone because of kindness of Owen English and Henry Martin. The potatoes were supplied to 24 persons.

Accounts totalling £17 7s. 1d. passed for payment.
