Extract from Parish Magazine of September 1894:

WATERINGBURY, &c. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The annual show was held in the grounds of Wateringbury Place, on Wednesday, August 1. The special feature of this year's show was an extra tent, with small tables, on which several ladies prepared floral decorations with great taste. The awarding of prizes was a work of great difficulty, and we think that a better arrangement for adjudging them might be. made another year. The exhibits by Gardeners, Amateurs and Cottagers were quite up to the average, and considering the peculiar season, reflected great credit on the exhibitors. The prizes were distributed on the terrace of Wateringbury Place, by Mrs. Davies, with her accustomed kindness. A lawn tennis tournament proved an attractive feature of the afternoon, as did a steam round-about, which was freely patronized by all classes and ages up to a late hour.
