Sheep farming (1865)

Maidstone Farmer's Club meeting at the Bull Inn had a meeting reported extensively in the Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser of 15 May 1865 on the topic

PRACTICAL OBSERVATIONS SHEEP FARMING. The subject announced for discussion this evening was sheep farming, having particular reference to the hill district and chalky soils.

Mr White of Manor Farm was present and his brief observations are set out below:

Mr. White said had had a little experience lately. Last Michaelmas he took the Manor Farm, Wateringbury. He always folded half his roots, and left the other half for fattening tegs1. His, however, was not chalky land. Perhaps it was rather richer than theirs.
