Extract from Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser - Monday 17 June 1867

WATERINGBURY Benefit Society’s Festival. —The Wateringbury Amicable Benefit Society held their 57th anniversary on Wednesday, at the Duke Head Inn. The sermon in the church was preached by the Rev. Stevens. Afterwards about 160 sat down to an excellent dinner, well served by Mr. Boorman the landlord. Thos. White, Esq., ably presided, supported by Edward Goodwin, Esq., A. Fremlin, Esq., Mr. Allwork, Mr. Towner, etc., etc. After dinner the wives and families of the members filled the large and capacious booth. Subsequently between 500 and 600 persons, headed by the band, went to the residence of the chairman.
