Deficient weight in grocer (1870)

Extract from Maidstone Telegraph 17th September 1870

????, grocer, Wateringbury, was summoned for having in his shop a 71b weight 1/4 of an ounce deficient. Mr Woollett proved to visiting the shop of defendant on the 16th August, when he found the weight deficient. Defendant said had had his weights corrected about 2 months ago by Mr Wood, of Maidstone, and therefore he was not aware of any of them being deficient. In reply to the bench, Mr. Woollett said that the deficiency in the weight in this case also had arisen from wear, there was nothing broken off.

Fined £l and 9s. costs.
