Malling Poor House (1809)

In Kent archives (reference CKS-P243/18/5-10) are the accounts for the Malling Poor House for several months in 1809. At this time Wateringbury had its own poor house but in October one person from Wateringbury spent a week there and Wateringbury was charged 4s. 6d., the standard weekly rate per person.

Account of William Hearsey for £35. 11s. 6d. covering period 2nd October to 30th October 1809 who acknowledges receipt of the cash by his x mark for 39 inhabitants at 4s. 6d. per person per week. Wateringbury’s share was 4s. 6d. for one person for a week.

29th May account, totalling £45.16s. 6d. covered 50 inhabitants over 4 weeks at 4s. 6d but no Wateringbury inhabitants.

No Wateringbury inhabitants in July account of 45 inhabitants.

No Wateringbury inhabitants in August account of 45 inhabitants,

No Wateringbury inhabitants in September account of 43 inhabitants
