WATERINGBURY.

Smoking Concert ,—The Wateringbury Wanderers Cycling Club held their annual inter-club meeting and smoking concert at the King’s Head Hotel on Wednesday. Mr. S. Lee Smith was in the chair.

There was a splendid attendance, the room being filled to overflowing. Maidstone, Tonbridge, VVest Malling, and Southborough Cycling Clubs were represented, the last named having the largest contingent present.

During the evening a well-organised pro­gramme was gone through, Mr. Walmsley, the pianist., opening with an overture, followed bv Mr. G. Cartwright with the song “Sons of the Sea.” Next came a comio song by Mr. T. Tyrrell, followed by a sentimental song by Mr. H . Hurley. After another comic song, “ Gallery and Boxes,” by Mr. G. Laurel, a violin solo was contributed by Mr. Jacobson. Mr. J. Neame sung “ Island of Dreams ” and Master Bodington gave “Sister Mary Jane’s Top-note.”

Mr. S. Lee Smith, in a few suitable words, proposed the toast of the visiting clubs. Although not a cyclist, he was a sportsman and considered cycling one of the best of sports. With the toast he coupled the name of Mr. Bartlett (Maidstone), who responded.

Messrs. Tyrrell and Laurel were encored for a comic duet. _ A recitation, “Tale of the Dover Express,” was given by Mr. C. Field, and a song, “ The Bugler,” by Mr. Edgar A. Smith, was followed by Mr.Tyrrell’s rendering of “I’m the Plumber.”

Medals for good at­tendance were then presented by the Chairman to Messrs. Shelford, Simons, and Crockford. Several other songs, &c., were given, the following, in addi­tion to those already mentioned, taking part Messrs. T. Gibbs, Ralph, Bulbeck, and Dickerson. The

health of the Chairman was proposed by Mr. Bartlett and received with musical honours.

The “Wateringbury Wanderers” was given by Mr. Neech and responded to by the Wanderers’ Secretary ( Mr. H. F. Green).

WATERINGBURY. The member for Chatham, Alderman H. D. Davies arrived at Wateringbury Place on Monday, from Malta. Alderman H. D. Davies, M.P., has signified his intention of becoming president of the Wateringbury Wanderers Cycling Club, which has just been formed in the village by young men, of which there are 20 members. They have had two very pleasant rides out to Tonbridge, Ightham and Lenham.
