WATERINGBURY .

— Marriage

.—The inhabitants of this beautiful village had a gala day on Tuesday, the 14th inst., in consequence of the marriage of Mr. T. Field, of the firm of Maudsley and Field, engineers, with Miss E. J. Evans, daughter of R. M. Evans, Esq., of Swiss Cottage.

The church was tastefully decorated with flowers and evergreens, and a very clever device and inscription, made by the children of the National Schools, was used as an adornment; the whole of the scholars, with the master and mistress, being invited to the wedding,

and ranged in rows on each side of the walk to the church. The sacred edifice was crowded by persons anxious to view

the ceremony. The bride was richly and beautifully dressed, as were also the six juvenile bridesmaids.

The marriage service was performed by the Rev. H. Stevens. Several of the relatives and friends of the bride and

bridegroom were present. In the afternoon the happy couple left in a carriage and four for Tunbridge, en route

for the Continent.

The children of the National Schools and many others were well supplied with good things, and

were allowed to amuse themselves in the beautiful grounds attached to the house. The Wateringbury brass band was

in attendance, and played many excellent tunes in good style. In the evening there was a dance on the green, to

which any one who wished to take a part was welcome. There was also music and singing in the house for those

who could not dance. The ringers had a good dinner. Mr. Craft, of Maidstone, provided the breakfast, and

much credit is due to him. The day was passed to the great delight of all engaged in the happy event.
