The Wateringbury Parish magazine of April 1897 records the AGM of the Cricket club. The preceding edition of the magazine had asked (but not answered ) why Wateringbury Cricket club still languished? The vicar in the chair was The Rev. Grevile Levett. Dr. Walter Fry was recently returned to Wateringbury with his new bride.

The Annual general meeting of the Wateringbury Cricket Club has recently been held, the Vicar in the chair. Dr. Walter Fry was elected Vice-captain in the place of Mr. A. Starmer, resigned, and L. Copley and A. Baker secretary and treasurer respectively. The accounts were presented and passed. They showed a deficit of about seven pounds.

It was unanimously agreed to purchase the pavilion recently erected in the grounds (it being a tenants' fixture) for the contract price of £10, the purchase money to be raised by special subscription; about £4 was promised by members present at the meeting.

A strong opinion was expressed that the playing teams should be composed, so far as possible, of bona fide members of the Club; and it was suggested that different members should be asked to make themselves responsible for getting up the teams for the various matches. It was agreed that matches should be arranged, if possible, with the Teston and Peckham Clubs. It is hoped that a larger number of local, or rather parochial, cricketers will now join the club and play in the matches.
