Kent Farmers’ Union and the Hop-Pickers

Meeting at Paddock Wood

A well attended meeting of farmers, hop-growers, tradesmen and others interested in the hop harvest took place in the assembly rooms of the Kent Arms Hotel , Paddock Wood on Monday afternoon……

Mr. HAWES Wateringbury spoke strongly against the facilities provided by the Railway Companies on Sundays for people, during their visit, in paying for intoxicating drinks, upset the work for a day or two afterwards, and at the suggestion of the CHAIRMAN, moved a resolution, requesting their secretary to ask their Secretary to ask the Railway Company to discontinue their practice of running Sunday specials for use of these people.
