Extract from Parish magazine of March 1895:

During the recent exceptionally severe weather Mr. Augustus Leney," Orpines," has most generously distributed 55 cwt. of coal among the sick, poor, and aged of our parish. In more than one or two instances the acceptable gift was received by the people just as their own little store was exhausted. Many expressions of gratitude have been heard and the kindness of the donor as been fully appreciated. Much kindness has also been shown by many others towards those who have suffered in consequence of the severe protracted frost. We take this opportunity to thank all those who have thus shown their thoughtful care for those in temporary need and to assure them that their kindness has been cordially recognised.
