In the Church vestry is held a scrap book with newspaper cuttings marked "in Memory of Edgar Clarke-Smith". Some cuttings have a date handwritten beside them. Many are probably from the South Eastern Gazette. The following is guessed to come from 1909:

WATERINGBURY

BALL.-The Wateringbury and District Cyclists' Club gave their annual ball on Thursday evening at the Institute. The rooms had been very tastefully decorated, two bicycles being introduced with good effect, together with mottoes and bunting. Dancing commenced at nine p.m. , and was continued to the strains of a band consisting of piano, violin, cornet, and piccolo until four a.m. in the morning. There was a large company present numbering close on 80. Mr Whitmore of the King's Head Hotel, Wateringbury, was responsible for an excellent supper which was served at midnight. The duties of M.C. were most satisfactrily carried out by Messrs. H. Miles and J. Watson.
