Walnut theft (1870)

Extract from Maidstone Telegraph 24 December 1870.

POLICE INTELLIGENCE. At the police court, on Wednesday, before R. Tassell. Esq., three boys named Frederick Moore, Wm. Jackson, and James Sharpe were charged with stealing a quantity of walnuts from an oast house, the property of Mr F. Leney, at Wateringbury. In consequence of Mr Leney having missed some walnuts from the oast house he gave information to the police, and Sergt. Bates watched the place and was fortunate enough to catch the three prisoners in the act of taking the walnuts. Sharpe was fined 15s and costs, and the other two prisoners 10s each and costs.
