The archaeological record.

The archaeological record for pre-historical Wateringbury is limited. Given Wateringbury is only 6 miles from Addington Long Barrow, part of the Neolithic Medway Megaliths, early man certainly frequented the area, particularly given the favourable soil and location on the river. There is no evidence of Roman inhabitation in Wateringbury although Roman villas have been found up the Medway as far as Teston and East Farleigh. Details of the albeit limited archaeological finds made to date together with Roman finds in the surrounding area are to be found in the Society's publication A History of Wateringbury to 1086.
