WATERINGBURY GARDENERS

& THE RED CROSS FUND

The Wateringbury Cottage Gardeners’ Society held its autumn show in the Church Rooms on November 11th, and it proved one of the best shows the Society has ever held, no doubt owing to the fact that all proceeds were to be given to the Red Cross Fund.

Even though the night was very wet, the excellent amount of £9 was realised, and has been forwarded to the Fund. The main features of the Show were the splendid display of apples and pears, which were exhibited by Mr. Rogers (gardener to Mr. T. Brocklebanks), 44 plates; Mr. Fullager (gardener to Mr. R. H. Fremlin), 47 plates; Mr. Burt (gardener to Mr. W .Jude), 15 plates. Mr. G. Chambers showed 12 plates of apples and a dish, of potatoes, the potatoes weighing 17 1/2 lbs; and Mr. Rogers also an excellent collection of vegetables.

A guessing competition was won by Bert Pickett, who guessed the exact weight, and a cake competition by Mr. P.Cronk and Mr. S. Hadlow (equal). The cake was kindly given by Mr. R. H. Fremlin.

Miss Adams and Miss Ely kindly presided at the piano, and the committee wish to thank these and all others who so kindly assisted, especially the exhibitors, as there were no prizes given, the members showing for honour alone.
