KENT BRIGADE COMPANY,

HOME COUNTIES DIVISIONAL

T. & S. COLUMN.

There was a large gathering at the Maidstone Church Institute on Saturday evening, January 17th, for the annual dinner and distribution of prizes of the Kent Brigade Company, Home Counties Divisional T. & S. Column. Under the supervision of S.M, Bird, the Hollingworth Hall had been effectively decorated for the occasion, the regimental crest and motto, " Nil Sine Labore," occupying a conspicuous position. Flags, evergreen wreathing, and beautiful plants were tastefully arrayed, and the hall presented a most attractive appearance when the Company entered for dinner.

Captain E. Lattimer occupied the chair, and supporting him were Colonel A. H.Martin, V.D., Commanding the Column ; Captain Allen (Surrey Company), Lieutenants Cox, H, J, Fletcher, S.M. Bird (vice-chairman), A.S.C.; Captain C. Bonham-Carter, Captain and Adjutant H. A. Waring, Col.-Sergt Merricks, 3rd Batt. Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment); Captain Nixon, Captain and Quartermaster Knowlden, S.M's. Bingham and Standen, West Kent Yeomanry; Captain Robb, S.M. Wood, 4th Batt. Royal West Kent Regiment (T.); S.M. A, Tapp, Kent Cyclist Batt ; Lieut.-Colonel J. M. Rogers-Tillstone, Captain G. Potts, S.M. Bowers, 1st Home Counties Field Ambulance, R.A.M.C.; Lieutenant R. Godfrey, Home Counties, R.G. A.; Captain Cross, Lieutenant R. W. Dowell Lee, Maidstone Grammar School Officers Training Corps; Major C. E. Wright, National Reserve; the Rev. G. M. Livett (Wateringbury); Messrs. A. J. Fletcher, E. Smith,(Wateringbury), W. S. Grant, and J. H. Taylor. Representatives were present from all the Territorial units in the town.

Numerous apologies were received for non- attendance, those thus writing including the Mayor (Councillor A. T. Epps), the Deputy Mayor (Alderman J. Potter), General Sir George Wolseley, the Brigadier (Colonel Bunbury), Major-General Young, Colonel C. Pyc Oliver, Major Tnicknesse, Major Wood Martyn, Major B. Pott, Captain Sir H. B. Cohen, Captains Grubb. and W. H.Robinson, Lieutenants D. M.Johnston, H.J. Robinson, Dr. Southwell Sander, Messrs, G. M. Bunyard, Maurice E. Balston and W. Chambers.

Mr. and Mrs. French (the steward and stewardess) deserve every congratulation for the excellent manner in which they carried out the catering. The loyal toast having been honoured, Colonel Martin presented the prizes, as follows :—

Shooting.—1, S.S.M. Dean; 2, Dvr. Parker; 3, Dvr. Pearce; 4, Dvr. R. Crispen ; 5, Corpl. H.Wissenden.
