Census 1881

In the 1881 census 1,301 were recorded as living in Wateringbury, including 22 at Lilly Hoo, then a detached part of the village and shortly to be transfered to East Peckham.

The data from census has been transcribed into the attached spreadsheet. Census data is not always accurate and the transcription process can introduce further errors. There is no absolute consistency of classification even within the same census yet alone between censuses.

However, bearing in mind these constraints having the data in a spreadsheet allows a certain amount of analysis to be done and it is the intention to do this over time. Visually of course it is easy to see the large number of people employed in Wateringbury, both in agriculture and domestic service.

In the meantime, the data in a spreadsheet will also provide a search result on a name entered within the 'search this site' box.
