Extract from Kentish Gazette 2nd May 1843. Why a Kentish newspaper should think Wateringbury is close to Tetbury I do not know!

UNFOUNDED REPORT OF THE DEATH OF MR. ALDERMAN LUCAS. Standard Office, London, Monday Night. Some of our morning contemporaries have copied from the John Bull yesterday a statement that the abovenamed worthy alderman had suddenly expired on Saturday last. We have great pleasure, however, in being enabled to contradict the rumour, and to state that the respected magistrate is in the possession of his usually good health. A letter was this morning received by James Shaw, esq., of Harp-lane, Tower-street, written by Alderman Lucas yesterday evening, from his country seat at Wateringbury, near Tetbury, Kent giving directions as to the transaction of some private business, and stating his intention to take his seat at the Guildhall police-office to-morrow (Tuesday.)
