Old Boys Society (1920)

In the Church vestry is held a scrap book with newspaper cuttings marked "in Memory of Edgar Clarke-Smith". Some cuttings have a date handwritten beside them. Many are probably from the South Eastern Gazette. The following is marked as from 30.11.20:

OLD BOYS SOCIETY

This flourishing Society, which was founded in 1904, held its annual dinner at the King's Head Hotel, Wateringbury, on Wednesday . The president, (Mr. Edgar A. Clarke Smith, A.C.P.) was in the chair, supported by the Mayor of Chatham (Alderman H. F. Whyman). who is an old Wateringbury boy , and Councillor William Payne (Chatham). Letters of apology were read from several hon. members, including Colonel Sir Charles Warde, Mr. T. J. Bennett, M.P. and Mr. W.W. Blest. During the evening, after acknowledging the toast of his health, the Mayor of Chatham, on behalf of the members, presented two silver vegetable dishes and an epergne to the president in recognition of his services to the Society. Those who contributed to an excellent musical programme were: Messrs. A. B. Baker, S. Damon, F. Cronk, W.R. Catt, R. Palmer, R. Froud, B. Duball and E. Clarke Smith. Mr. William Russell was an efficient accompanist.
