Extract from Northampton Mercury , 1st August 1846:

Wateringbury, and Teston.—The hops have improved considerably within the week ; they are throwing out some very healthy looking branches, and are fast coming into burr; but where they were attacked severely by the vermin, and the bine weak likewise, they are very short of branches, and look badly.

Extract from Northampton Mercury, 19th September, 1846:

Wateringbury and Teston.—The hopping is above half finished, with most of the growers. The hops are good in quality, and take more bushels than usual to make the weight required, and the opinion with us is that the duty is overrated at the present.
