Hopper hits constable (1897)

Extract from South Eastern Gazette of 28 September reporting on West Malling police court proceedings of 20th September, 1897.

A hopper named Clark was charged with assaulting P.C. Eason, at Wateringbury, on the 17th inst. The prisoner, while in liquor, struck the constable on the head with a stick at Wateringbury railway station. He was sen­tenced to eight days’ hard labour.
