In the Church vestry is held a scrap book with newspaper cuttings marked "in Memory of Edgar Clarke-Smith". Some cuttings have a date handwritten beside them. Many are probably from the South Eastern Gazette. The following is believed to be from 11 May 1909:

WATERINGBURY

RABBIT COURSING.-On Wednesday the annual coursing took place in a meadow lent by Mr. Gerald Warde. There was a large number of spectators, and good sport was witnessed. The referee was Mr. George Froud, and Mr. T. Froud (the founder), Mr. J. E. Button, and Mr. J. Dadswell were responsible for all arrangements. A dinner was held at the Kent Arms Hotel in the evening at which Mr. Angliss presided. The Chairman gave the toast "Success to English sport," saying that he had never seen better sport than had been witnessed that day. The toast was acknowledged by Mr. John Reeves. Songs were sung after dinner, and, altogether a very pleasant evening was enjoyed by the large company who attended.

Note:

Kent Arms is in West Malling .
