Notice in Whitstable Times 21st March 1874:

PARTNERSHIPS DISSOLVED. G. Burrell, W. Jude, and A. Walmesley, Wateringbury, Kent, brewers, so far as regards A. Walmesley.

The following notice in the London Standard of 21 January 1874 reveals a mystery surrounding Jude's young partner, Walmelsey:

ONE HUNDRED POUNDS REWARD.—MISSING, since the 20th October last, Mr. ALFRED WALMESLEY, of Wateringbury, Kent. He left the Woodlawn Station of the Midland Great Western Railway of Ireland for Dublin by the 8 a.m. train on the 20th October last, being, it is believed, on his return home after a short tour in Ireland, and has not since been heard of. He then wore a yachting suit, and had with him a knapsack and small black box. There is some reason for supposing that he may have temporarily assumed the name of Gordon. Age 24, height 6 feet, upright carriage, and gentlemanly manners ; sallow complexion ; dark, wavy hair ; slight whiskers and moustache; prominent nose. The above Reward will be paid to any person giving the first information of his present address, if living, or the date and place of his death, if dead.
