Diptheria case (1914)

Extract from Kent Messenger of 10th October 1914 reporting proceedings of Malling Rural Council

INFECTIOUS ILLNESS.

The Inspector reported 27 cases of diphtheria and nine of scarlet fever during the past two months, as follows:

August —

Diphtheria: Aylesford 7, East Peckham 4, Snodland 8, Wateringbury 1.

Scarlet fever: Aylesford, East Malling, Burham, Snodland, one each.

September —

Diphtheria: East Peckham 2, Burham 2, Snodland 3.

Scarlet fever: Eccles 2, Burham 3.

Sixteen cases of diphtheria had been admitted to and 14 discharged from the isolation hospital; and eight of scarlet fever had been admitted and three discharged. There were now six of diphtheria and seven of scarlet fever in the hospital.
