Theft from J.B.Jude (1867)

Extract from Dover Express of 9th August 1867 reporting on West Malling petty sessions:

Charge or Felony.—William Morgan, farm labourer, was charged with stealing a hammer, belonging to Mr. J. B. Jude. at Wateringbury. The hammer was lost from Mr. Jude's premises far back as September last. On the 13th ult., the house where the prisoner lodged was searched and the hammer found, when prisoner said it was his own and that he had found it about two years ago. The hammer bore the initials "J.8.J.," and was identified being the property of Mr. Jude. Mr. Norton, solicitor, called witnesses to character, and the case was dismissed.
