Extract from Maidstone Telegraph of 28th October 1865 reporting on Kent Quarter Sessions.

Assaulting a Constable at Wateringbury.—

Daniel Kennedy, 23, labourer, was indicted for assaulting George Hale, a constable, the execution his duty, at Wateringbury, on the 23rd Sept. Mr. E.J. Smith appeared on the part of the prosecution; Mr. E. T. Smith defended. Prosecuter said on the day in question affray took place, near the Duke's Head, at Wateringbury, and he went to assist the police-constable. Prisoner attacked him, knocked him down, and he was beaten and knocked about by several of the party. He was severely injured. Thomas Chapman gave corroborative evidence. The jury found the prisoner guilty.—Six weeks' hard labour.
