Soft Fruit sale (1919)

Extract from Sevenoaks Chronicle & Kentish Advertiser of 20 June 1919

RECORD SALE. On Saturday last Messrs. Langridge and Freeman

held their annual Soft Fruit Sale at Wateringbury, when the

attendance was so large that not half those present could

get in the sale room at the King's Head, and the sale was

consequently held in the open on land adjoiniug the hoteL

The competition and prices realised were far away beyond

anything previously experienced, the total of the sale

being more than double anything previoualy realised at this

annual event. The prices realised included the following

for cherry orchards: 71/2 acres £740: 21/2 acres, £230;

7 acres, £280; 18 acres, £740;13 acres £360, 14 acres, £250; acres, £528;

6 acres, £360; 7 acres, £460: 121/2 acres £200; 16 acres,

£625; 7 acres. 3 acres £; 10 acres, £330; 13 acres, £335.

Mowing grass sold at £90 for 18 acres; £7O for 17 acres; £32

for 6 acres; and £26 for 41/2 acres. The total realised by the

sale was £6,852.
