Extract from The Queenslander of 2 March 1867.

Trotting Match.—A match came off recently at Maidstone, between Lieut. Hughes' (R.H.A.) bay mare The Slave, and Lieut. Cunningham's (R.H.C.) roan pony Trine. The distance was 10 miles, on an ordinary turnpike road, 5 miles out and 5 in. The road to Wateringbury was selected for the trial. The result

of the race utterly upset public opinion, the mare coming in an easy winner a mile in advance, never having been extended to her fullest powers during the race until within the last three miles home. The winner is a fine looking bay mare, with good shoulders and neck, strong quarters and clean legs, and accomplished the distance in 37 1/2 min.
