WATERINGBURY vs.PENENDEN HEATH

The return match between these clubs was played on Monday last, on the ground of the former. The day was exceedingly fine, and the arrangements excellent. The game, being commenced late, was not played out, and was therefore decided in favour of Heath, who headed their opponents by five runs only on the first innings. This match was decidedly the best ever played between these clubs, and perhaps neatly quite the closest ever witnessed on the ground, as was very doubtful till the last man but one of the Penenden Heath club went in which side would take the lead. The batting was very good on both sides, the score being headed with good numbers on their respective sides by Messrs. Stubbs, 50, and Fryer, 33, who were ably seconded by Messrs. Hammond, Milne, Smith, Hughes, and Usborne, all of whom got double figure. The bowling was very fair, but the fielding at times rather loose.

The dinner provided Mr. Harris of the King's Head, gave, at it always does, universal satisfaction.

The following was the state the game at its conclusion :

Wateringbury, 1st innings, 118, 2nd 47 Penenden Heath club, one innings, 123.
