Ball at Wateringbury Place (1873)

Extract from the Whitstable Times and Herne Bay Herald of 12 July 1873:

WATERINGBURY.

BALL AT WATERINGBURY PLACE Friday last.

S.L. Lancaster-Lucas, Esq., gave dinner and ball to his tenants and few select friends, Lady North and the Earl of Guilford being among the latter, in commemoration of his twenty fifth wedding day. The dinner took place at seven o'clock, and about 50 ladies and gentlemen partook of it. On the conclusion, a ball was held to which a number of the neighbouring gentry had been invited, and in all about 150 guests were present. Supper was partaken of at 12 o'clock after which the company re-commenced dancing, to the music of the band of the West Kent Light Infantry Militia, the small hours of the morning having been reached before the company separated. Mr. King, confectioner, of High Street, Maidstone, supplied the dinner and supper in his usual excellent style,
