GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY.— (Omitted from August Magazine).—On Thursday, July 13th the annual Festival was held in the grounds of Yalding Parsonage. The weather was perfect and, fortunately, most of the Wateringbury members were able to go. They arrived early and found many things prepared for their amusement—singing, acting, a barge on the river and last, but not least, cricket, at which Wateringbury, after an exciting game, vanquished Mereworth. Then followed tea in the orchard and a row on the river, and at six o'clock the girls assembled on the lawn for the prize-giving. In the Elementary Reading Union, Edith Stone won the first Diocesan prize for a good paper on the Church Catechism and Dorothy Milsted the second. K. Clements (now Mrs. Alldis) and 13 years a member received a marriage card. Then came service in the Church. The preacher was Mr. Wheatley, of Four Elms, who took for his subject " Friendliness" urging all who belonged to the Society to aim at making it what its name implied. Thus ended a very happy day. and hearty thanks are due to Miss Warde for her kindness in preparing so many enjoyable things. The G.F.S. sale of work for the Mashonaland Mission and the Universities Mission to Central Africa was held at the Red House on August 9th, and realised £10 6s. 0d.
