Wateringbury Place (1851)

There follows an advert from the Kentish Gazette of 11th November 1851. Why Samuel Lucas, who succeeded his grandfather, Matthias Lucas at Wateringbury Place in 1848 was selling off his animals and farm is not known. Matthias' will does not seem to have left him badly provided for. He had thrown a dinner for 780 people in 1849 on the christening of his son and he had donated earlier in 1851 an organ to the Church.

See also Wateringbury Place auction (1853) for a later sale of books, paintings and etchings.
