The following note about Post Office times comes from The Parish magazine of March 1903.

NOTE.—The following information has been kindly certified as correct by Mr. J. Byrne, the Post-master at Maidstone.

Despatches:—

10.20 a.m. to Maidstone (local delivery at 3.30 p.m.) and from Maidstone forward at 11.30 a.m. to E. & W. Malling, Larkfield, Aylesford, Snodland, Birling, Offham, Ryarsh, and to Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Staplehurst, Brighton, Red Hill, Reigate, Hastings, Croydon, Hawkhurst, Folkestone, Ashford, Margate, Deal and Sandwich ; and at 12.15 p.in. to London and forward, Gravesend, Rochester, Chatham, Sittingbourne, Sheerness, Faversham, Canterbury, Dover, Ramsgate, Herne Bay, Whitstable, Yalding, and Hunton.

11.50 a.m. to London and forward (letters only); and for local delivery in Wateringbury (about 1 p.m.), Mereworth and West Peckham.

2.5 p.m.to Maidstone (delivery at 3.30 p.m.) and to West Malling, Boxley, Detling, Bearsted, Hollingbourne, and Lenham ; and forward at 3. 15 p.m. to London and forward (Colonial and Foreign), Rochester, Dartford, Gravesend, Sittingbourne, Ashford, Folkestone, etc. ; and at 4.45 to Chatham, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and Aylesford.

6.50 p.m. to Maidstone and forward to London and all parts.

Deliveries:— 7.0 a.m. (6.40 a.m.) to all parts of the Parish.

12.50 p.m. (12.25) to all parts except Red Hill, North Pole, and Canon Heath.

5.35 p.m. (5.25 p.m.) to all parts except Old Road, Latter's Buildings, and The Hermitage.

N.B. " The Letter-box [Wateringbury P.O.] is cleared for local letters immediately before each delivery." [J.B.]

Sundays:—Delivery, 7.0 a.m.; Despatch, 11.20 a.m.

Foreign Mails:—

For American Mails post by 6.50 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday.

For Indian and Egyptian Mails post by 2.5 p.m. on Friday.

For South African Mails post by 6.50 p.m. on Friday.

For West Coast Mails post by 2.5 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday.
