Extract from Illustrated London News of 10th July 1875.

Some shorthorns belonging to Messrs. Leney's herd were sold by auction at Wateringbury last week. The most valuable animal was the bull Eighth Duke of Geneva which was purchased by an American gentleman for 2,000 guineas.

If 2,000 guineas (£2,100) is adjusted by RPI inflation since 1875 this equates to £163,000 but if it is indexed by average income then 2,000 guineas is equivalent to over £1.3 million.
