WATERINGBURY CHURCH ALTERATION FUND

COMMITTEE:

Rev. SPENCER W. PHILLIPS, Chairman and Secretary.

Mr. THOS. WHITE,

Mr. C. F. LENEY, Churchwardens.

Mr. CLEMETSON.

Mr. R. H. FREMLIN.

Mr. J. W. FRY.

Mr. E. J. GOODWIN.

Mr. NEWINGTON.

Col. SCHNEIDER,

Mr. STOCKDALE.

Lt-Col. SYMES.

Rev. W. W. SEDGWICK.

The Committee beg to make the following statement with regard to the work which was entrusted to them at a General Meeting of Parishioners held in the National Schools, on 11th January, 1882.

Under the advice of Mr. W. O. Milne, Architect, they have entered into a Contract with Mr. E. Vaughan, Builder, Maidstone, (whose Tender was the lowest of the nine sent in to the Committee) to

I. Erect a new North Aisle.

II. Re-seat the whole of the Church, except the South Aisle.

III. Lengthen, re-floor, and otherwise renovate the Chancel.

IV. Put in a New Apparatus for heating the Church with Hot Water.

By these Alterations, beside the great improvement in the appearance and comfort of the Church, an addition of about 60 adult sittings will be obtained, most of which will be entirely free and unappropriated, thus meeting a great want at present existing in the Church.

The gross amount of the Builder's Tender is £1791, towards which up to the present time £1560 have been paid or promised. There will be also Architect's Commission, &c., bringing the total sum required up to about £1900.

In view of the present deficiency in the Fund, the Committee have not felt themselves; justified in definitely accepting that part of the Contract which refers to the New Heating Apparatus, but they confidently trust that sufficient Funds will be forthcoming for the purpose before the Contractor requires a final decision. The cost of the Boiler, Pipes, &c., is about £130.

Further Donations either towards the General Fund, or if preferred for the Heating Apparatus only, will be thankfully received by either of the Churchwardens or by the Vicar. Subscriptions already promised may be paid to either of the above, or at the Maidstone Branch of the London and County Bank, to the account of "The Wateringbury Church Alteration Fund."

SPENCER W. PHILLIPS, Vicar
