The following is a very abbreviated summary of the minutes of the Parish Council for the period above. Only items shown in quotation marks are direct transcriptions.

Meeting of March 5th 1907

The clerk represented to the Council the door of the Lockup (let to the County Council) was out of repair and it was decided the clerk instruct Mr. Benfield to do these repairs.

Proposed by Rev. Livett Sec by Mr. Baker

Write to the Chairman of the District Council requesting to add measles to the list of notification diseases and that the neighbouring District Councils should be invited to take similar action.

Malling Rural District Council replies on March 9 1907 “Measles-I am instructed to inform you that my Council cannot accede to your application of the 5th inst.

Meeting of Nov 17 1908

Resolved the Clerk write to the Surveyor of the Postal Authority at Maidstone to arrange for the mail leaving Wateringbury by 10.59 a.m. train to be despatched by the train leaving at 9.51 a.m. The London despatch at 11.29 a.m. to remain unaltered.

Also that the last delivery at 5.30 p.m. be extended to the whole Parish. [The P.O. ‘s reply was “circumstances do not warrant compliance with their request.”]

Mr. Baker read a letter from Mrs. Leney requesting that in the prospect of there being many people out of employment during the winter the Parish Council should consider the advisability of organising of a soup kitchen. In discussion it was felt that a soup kitchen would not meet the case and that the Council as a council could not act . The members present agreed to act on a voluntary committee and the Vicar was asked and agreed to call the committee together should occasion seem to arise.

Meeting of Oct 28 1909

  1. The attendance on week days for the Wateringbury [Post] Office to be from 8.0 oclock a.m. to 8.0 oclock p.m. instead of 7.0 oclock a.m. to 8.0 oclock p.m.

  2. Agreed that half a days holiday be granted on Wednesday (no other day) and providing all Telegrams be delivered from Teston.

  3. Agreed to suspension of telegraph business at noon on Bank Holidays.

  4. Agreed the Telegraph Office be entirely closed on Sundays.
