Extract from Kentish Gazette - Tuesday 29 July 1856

Daring Burglaries.—On Tuesday night a burglary was effected at the house of S. Lancaster Lucas, Esq., at Wateringbury, and several articles of plate and wearing apparel were stolen. It is thought the robbers effected an entrance previous to the family retiring to bed, and then, after securing their booty, made their way out again. A carpenter's shop was broken into on the following night, and some tools were stolen. "We believe the depredators are not yet apprehended. In the case of the robbery at Mr. Lucas's, reward of £20 has been offered.
