Cabbage theft (1872)

Extract from South Eastern Gazette of 10th August 1872

Israel West and Henry Hosmer were summoned for stealing a quantity of growing cabbages, the property of Mr. Beadle, of Wateringbury.

The defendants pleaded guilty, and Hosmer was sentenced to three months’ hard labour, West being fined £1, 9d.,the value of the cabbages, and 4s. 6d. costs.
