Extract from Northampton Mercury, 28th August 1847:

Wateringbury, Mereworth, Nettlestead, and Teston. —The hops in these parishes are looking extremely well, grow rapidly, and promise an excellent crop, except in a few slack-bined grounds.

Extract from Northampton Mercury, 9th October 1847:

Wateringbury, Teston and Nettlestead.- The picking is fast drawing to a close, and they are said to weigh well and to be of fine quality. The quantity, it is generally supposed, will be about the same as last year. They are getting very brown
